The day-early celebration is moving back to the north side of the 麻花视频 River, along Reserve Avenue this year.

An all-star ensemble of local musicians is performing a double jam set from 4:45 p.m. until sunset, with fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m. The fireworks are 鈥渁n extended 20 minutes鈥� this year, a parks and recreation notice said.

鈥淏y hosting this event on July 3rd, the City of 麻花视频 is able to offer a more impressive fireworks show than would be possible on the 4th,鈥� the notice said.

Radford

The riverside city, too, is hosting its Fourth of July fireworks a day early, at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, launched from Bisset Park.

Bedford

The town of Bedford launches its fireworks show at dusk Thursday from the National D-Day Memorial grounds. The memorial itself will be closed to the public during the show. The town government urges fireworks fans to avoid parking along U.S. 460 or its on and off ramps.

Salem

Salem鈥檚 fireworks display, presented by the U.S. Marines, is happening as part of the Salem Fair at 9:30 p.m. Friday night.

Vinton

The town will host its Fourth of July Celebration at the Vinton War Memorial beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. A program including music begins at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

Blacksburg

The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club is sponsoring the 37th Annual Blacksburg 4th of July Parade at 2 p.m. Friday.

The parade starts at the corner of Eheart and South Main Streets, and ends on Alumni Mall near the Tech Drillfield.

The town hosts live music at Municipal Park beginning at 6 p.m., followed by the annual fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

Christiansburg

Downtown Christiansburg will host an array of food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, a kids鈥� zone, and touch-a-truck from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Fireworks will start around 9:15 p.m. at Christiansburg Huckleberry Park. They can be viewed from the Uptown Mall or Walmart parking lots. If Friday鈥檚 event is rained out, fireworks will be on Saturday, with no downtown event.

Buchanan

Buchanan鈥檚 annual community carnival in the town park hosts a parade and fireworks show from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday. The carnival also will have fireworks Saturday.

Smith Mountain Lake

Parkway Marina Fireworks

Parkway Marina fireworks, traditionally the largest annual display of fireworks at Smith Mountain Lake, will take place Friday.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with live music by the Tate Tuck Band starting at 6 p.m. Food, drinks and activities for kids. Proceeds benefit the Saunders Volunteer Fire Co.

This is a popular way to see Smith Mountain Lake fireworks on the water (near channel marker R8). Many locals and residents make it a tradition to come to the Smith Mountain Lake fireworks by boat each year.

Parkway Marina fireworks start shortly after dark. Also, it鈥檚 important to note that the viewing area is a no-wake zone, so be patient, safe and courteous.

Mitchell鈥檚 Point Marina Fireworks

Mitchell鈥檚 Point Marina fireworks begin at dusk on Saturday. Festivities start at 7 p.m. The event is free, but donations will be accepted for Semper Fi & America鈥檚 Fund and Operation Command.

It is also important to consider that parking is limited at Mitchell鈥檚 Point so you may have to walk approximately 3/4 of a mile to the marina. It鈥檚 best to view these fireworks on Smith Mountain Lake by boat from Craddock Creek near channel marker C3.

Mitchell鈥檚 Point Marina is located at 3553 Trading Post Road in Huddleston.

Wind Vineyards Fireworks

Wind Vineyards at Smith Mountain Lake offers a new celebration Sunday packed with fun for all ages. Dance to live music by the Church Sisters, sample delicious eats from food vendors and sip wine slushies along with a variety of other beverages.

Bring the whole family for exciting activities including slides, games, bounce houses, hayrides and monster truck rides. Be sure to catch a special performance by the 鈥淲alking Tall鈥� monster truck before the evening concludes with fireworks.

There will also be a patriotic parade that is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. so bring your decorated item of choice (side by side, golf cart, tractor, horse, 4-wheeler, bike, car, etc.) and join in on the fun.

Gates open at 3 p.m. Sunday. Wind Vineyards is located at 15772 Moneta Road, Moneta.

Safety on the water

If you do attend one of the lake shows Friday or Saturday by water, boats with flashing amber and red lights will identify the boundaries of the no-wake zones near the Parkway Marina Fireworks on Friday. The area around the Mitchell鈥檚 Point Marina fireworks display on Saturday will also be a no-wake zone.

The Smith Mountain Lake Association (SMLA) asks that boaters go slow and enter the no-wake area at idle speed. After the fireworks have ended, boaters should depart slowly and accelerate to safe nighttime cruising speeds only after leaving the no-wake zone.

No-wake zones have been set up for the last 17 years to help keep boaters safe. They are credited with minimizing accidents on the lake during these busy events and adding to the enjoyment of watching fireworks from the water,

All people attending by boat should also wear properly fitting life jackets. Boaters should keep navigation lights on and be vigilant about operating safely among all the boats in the area.

Jerry Hale, the SMLA Water Safety Council member who originated the 鈥淣o-Wake Fireworks鈥� program said, 鈥淥ur goal is for all who attend the fireworks by water to have a safe, stress-free and enjoyable time. That requires everyone to be using their most courteous boating behavior throughout the evening.鈥�
