Virginia Tech has announced the following:
Tech鈥檚 Division of Information Technology has appointed Shannon Beck director of the Virginia Cyber Range effective Monday.

Beck
Beck will lead efforts to support and expand cybersecurity education across Virginia鈥檚 public high schools, community colleges, and universities through scalable, cloud-based learning environments and instructional resources.
She also will serve as director of the U.S. Cyber Range of Virginia Tech, a service center that provides similar infrastructure and instructional tools to educators and institutions outside Virginia.
Beck joins Tech from the U.S. Air Force Academy, where she serves as an associate professor in the department of computer and cyber sciences. She also has held leadership and instructional roles at the National Science Foundation, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and .

She has supported the development of Virginia-specific K鈥12 curriculum and co-led GenCyber teacher camps, a national program funded by the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation to train K鈥12 educators in cybersecurity.
Beck holds a doctorate and master鈥檚 degree from Kent State University and a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Hiram College.
Ed Berger has been appointed head of the department of engineering education effective July 25.

Berger
Berger previously served as professor and interim head for the department of engineering education at Purdue University, as well as associate vice provost for learning innovation and director of the Innovation Hub.
His accomplishments include serving on the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and being a National Science Foundation program officer in the Division of Engineering Education and Centers.
Berger received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and both his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Penn State.
Brian Kleiner, the Vorster-Kleiner Director of the Myers-Lawson School of Construction, has been elected to the National Academy of Construction鈥檚 2025 class.

Kleiner
A professor in the College of Engineering, Kleiner was recognized for his contributions to health, well-being, and safety in construction and for his leadership in construction education and research.
His career achievements include: the 2022 A. R. Lauer Safety Award, which is the top safety honor from the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and a 2014 Distinguished Professor Award from the Construction Industry Institute.
New members of the National Academy of Construction will be inducted at the academy鈥檚 annual meeting on Oct. 30 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Hart joined the bank in 2019 and has more than 40 years of experience in the financial industry. She most recently served as senior vice president, chief strategy and retail officer. In her new role, she will oversee treasury services, merchant services, Botetourt Wealth Management, and Bearing Insurance.
Hart double majored at 麻花视频 College with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Economics. She serves on the Virginia Bankers Association Government Relations Committee and the St. Andrews Catholic Church Parish Finance Council.
Burks has been with the bank for more than 20 years and in the financial industry since 1994. He most recently served as first vice president, head of retail. In his new role, he will oversee all aspects of the bank鈥檚 retail operations, including branch performance, customer experience, and retail strategy.
He holds an associate degree in accounting from Virginia Western Community College and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in business management from Emory & Henry University. He is also a graduate of the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management. Burks served as a deacon at Bonsack Baptist Church and a member of multiple committees.
Francis joined the bank in 1995 and most recently served as first vice president, head of business banking. He will oversee the bank鈥檚 lending operations, including credit risk, portfolio growth, and lending practices.
Francis began his career at the bank as an intern and became a full-time employee after graduating from Ferrum College with a degree in finance. He also completed studies at the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia and the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. Francis serves on the board of directors for Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare.
Griffin joined the bank鈥檚 mortgage division, Virginia Mountain Mortgage, in 2016 and most recently served as first vice president, head of mortgage lending. In her new role, she will lead the bank鈥檚 mortgage and title division.
Griffin earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in international relations from 麻花视频 College. She is active in the community through her involvement in the 麻花视频 Valley Junior Women鈥檚 Club and serves as secretary/treasurer of the Blue Ridge Mortgage Lenders Association.
Miller joined the bank in 2016 and has more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry. She previously served as first vice president, marketing strategy, and business development officer. In her expanded role, she will oversee the bank鈥檚 marketing, branding, customer engagement, and business development initiatives.
Miller earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in communication studies from Bridgewater College and is a graduate of the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia鈥檚 Darden School of Business. She continues to serve on the Bridgewater College President鈥檚 Advisory Council. Miller also serves as chair of the Botetourt Family YMCA Board of Directors and sits on the boards of the YMCA of Virginia鈥檚 Blue Ridge, Total Action for Progress (TAP), the 麻花视频 Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Daleville Institute, Inc. She is also a member of the Carilion Clinic鈥檚 Reaching Far, Caring Close Cancer Campaign Cabinet, the Valley Business Front Advisory Board, and the Virginia Bankers Association鈥檚 Marketing Committee.
Murphy has been with the bank for more than two decades and most recently served as first vice president, head of credit and loan services. In this new role, he will manage the bank鈥檚 credit risk, loan underwriting, credit and loan policies, and portfolio quality.
Murphy earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in business and economics from Virginia Military Institute and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee. He is active in the community through his involvement with St. Mark鈥檚 Episcopal Church in Fincastle and coaches recreational sports in Botetourt County.
Rhodes has been with the bank for more than 25 years and previously served as first vice president, head of operations. In her new role, she will continue leading all operational functions of the bank, ensuring secure, efficient, and customer-focused systems and services.
A native of Southwest Virginia, Rhodes is a graduate of the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia鈥檚 Darden School of Business.
