Robert "Bob" Wood Mitchell, born on May 7, 1932, in Bedford County, Va., passed away Tuesday evening, July 8, 2025, at the age of 93. Bob was raised in Salem, Va., where he graduated from Andrew Lewis High School.
He is a military veteran serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Bob was married to Eleanor Honaker Mitchell for 43 years until her death in 1996. He worked at the C & P Telephone Company for 33 years before retiring in 1989.
Bob always set an example of how to be a wonderful husband, father, friend and mentor. His strong Christian beliefs guided him and his family life. He was a member and a Deacon of the Bonsack Baptist Church.
Bob is survived by his current wife, Phyllis Saunders Mitchell; sons, Steve and Jane Mitchell currently residing in Hampstead, N.C., Roger and Ursula Mitchell residing in Kinston, N.C., and Dan and Trisha Mitchell residing in Katy, Texas. His memory will live on with his eight grandchildren, Matthew Mitchell, Amanda Ruckman, Megan Mitchell, Saedy Devery, Kilie Cottle, Virginia Mitchell, Caroline Mitchell, Danaka Mitchell; and three great-grandchildren, Allen Ruckman, Samantha Ruckman, and Eleanor Cottle.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m., on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Oakey's East Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Oakey's East Chapel.
