Nasear Johnson rushed for 289 yards and scored four touchdowns as Liberty ended its four-year, 37-game losing streak by beating William Campbell 50-16 in its season opener Friday in Bedford.
Riddik Tice caught a 43-yard touchdown pass and recorded a 70-yard punt return touchdown for the Minutemen (1-0), who scored 50 points in a game for the first time in nearly 10 years. It was also the head-coaching debut for Brad Womack.
Liberty hosts Glenvar (1-0) next week.
Blacksburg 40, Giles 8
Sam Szefc threw two touchdown passes and ran in another as the Bruins routed the Spartans in Pearisburg.
Szefc completed 11 of 14 passes for 160 yards for Blacksburg (1-0). Nate Means and Mack Strahm caught touchdown passes, and Doug Howard tallied three receptions for 50 yards. Jaxon Keys rushed for 69 yards and a score on 17 carries. Ethan Lowdermilk kicked a 38-yard field goal.

Floyd County 31, Narrows 26
The Buffaloes rallied with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for a come-from-behind victory over the Green Wave.
Quarterback Sam Phillips ran for 156 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns for Floyd County (1-0), which won its first season opener since 2017 in its first meeting with Narrows in 30 years. Max Harris scored the game-winning touchdown on a 46-yard run, and Aiden Bakely had a fumble recovery touchdown in the first quarter.
Elijah Knoetze caught seven passes for 109 yards and a touchdown for Narrows (0-1). Tucker Bryan threw two touchdown passes, including one to Cooper Helvey, and ran in another. Helvey also notched an 11-yard scoring run.
Floyd County is off next week. Narrows is at Holston (1-0).
Franklin County 27, Bassett 19
The Eagles beat the Bengals for the fourth straight season.
Winston Davenport completed 10 of 16 passes for Franklin County (1-0) for 197 yards and two touchdowns to Quincy Pruett on throws of 91 and 56 yards. Pruett finished with five catches for 153 yards, and Rashaun Hughey rushed for 60 yards and two scores on 23 carries.
David Cook rushed for 75 yards and three touchdowns for Bassett (0-1), and went 13-of-27 passing for 211 yards. Aaron Osgood had four catches for 77 yards and Javarus Faulkner picked up five catches for 82 yards.
Franklin County is at Salem (0-1) next week. Bassett is at Gretna (0-1).
Carroll County 35, Christiansburg 21
Ayden Dickerson scored three touchdowns as the Cavaliers raced out to a 35-7 lead and beat the Blue Demons for the first time since 1993.
Dickerson scored twice on the ground, caught a touchdown pass from Isaiah Easter and finished with 142 yards on 19 carries for Carroll County (1-0). Easter added a touchdown run, as did Dane Leonard.聽
Izaiah Cotto rushed for 73 yards on nine carries for Christiansburg (0-1) and scored on a 60-yard touchdown run. Jeremiah Barnes went 5-of-11 for 55 yards. Sean McMurray and Trent Byrd added rushing scores.
Carroll County hosts Grayson County (0-1) next week. Christiansburg is at Abingdon (1-0).聽
Glenvar 70, Galax 0
Brody Dawyot racked up five touchdowns as the Highlanders shut out the Maroon Tide in their season opener for the second straight year in Salem.
Dawyot completed 7 of 11 passes for 168 yards and three touchdowns for Glenvar (1-0), while rushing for 60 yards and two scores on four carries. Tre Dawyot caught four passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns, Ranger Swanson scored twice on the ground and Cooper Mullins added another.
Galax (0-1) was held to 50 yards.
Glenvar travels to Bedford next week to face Liberty (1-0). Galax hosts Graham (0-1).
Parry McCluer 21, Rockbridge County 11
Jacob Shafer ran for 96 yards on 22 carries and scored a touchdown as the Fighting Blues topped the Wildcats in Buena Vista.
Nathan Glass added 60 yards and two scores on seven carries for Parry McCluer (1-0).
Freshman Taylan Tyree scored the lone touchdown for Rockbridge County (0-1) and ran for 34 yards on 11 carries. Aiden Meyers kicked a 25-yard field goal.

Northside 48, Pulaski County 19
Casey Hall totaled 347 yards and four touchdowns as the Vikings beat the Cougars in 麻花视频.
Hall rushed for 285 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries for Northside (1-0) and added 62 passing yards and another two scores on 5-of-5. Darrion King and Kam Tucker caught touchdown passes, and Iziah Logan ran for 89 yards and a score on eight carries.
Samuel Carrasco-Segura ran for 73 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries for Pulaski County (0-1), while Maddox Thompson rushed for 71 yards and a score on 19 carries. Bryant Nottingham added a rushing TD.
Northside faces Cave Spring (0-1) next week at Bogle Stadium. Pulaski County is at Tazewell (0-0).
Varina 41, William Fleming 14
The Colonels fell behind 21-0 after the first quarter and dropped their season opener to the defending Class 4 state runners-up in 麻花视频.
Zhiy Steelman ran for 53 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries for William Fleming. Jycer Preston added 42 rushing yards and a score on 10 carries and completed 11 of 16 passes for 58 yards.
Fleming travels to Charlottesville next week to face Albemarle (0-1).
William Byrd 36, Cave Spring 7
Gray Matthews and Jamez Toler combined for 288 rushing yards and four touchdowns as the Terriers scored all of their points in the first half en route to a win over the Knights in Vinton.
Matthews collected 185 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries for William Byrd (1-0), while Toler picked up 103 yards and two scores on 16 carries. Cannin Lutz went 11-of-22 for 175 yards and threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tate Kotz.
Cave Spring (0-1) got on the board on a 65-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
William Byrd hosts Hidden Valley (0-1) next week. Cave Spring faces Northside (1-0) at Bogle Stadium.
Atlantic Shores Christian 48, 麻花视频 Catholic 16
Yajae Hairston had a 72-yard kickoff return touchdown but the Celtics fell to the Seahawks in VISAA action.
Hairston聽also scored a rushing touchdown and tallied 65 yards on seven carries for 麻花视频 Catholic (1-1). Mason Williams went 5-of-11 for 70 yards and Rahem Lipford caught three passes for 42 yards.

Rural Retreat 46, Fort Chiswell 7
Chaz Penwright totaled four touchdowns as the Indians walopped the Pioneers.
Penwright tallied touchdown runs of 40, 2 and 59 yards for Rural Retreat (1-0) and threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jay Snavely. Hunter Rollyson had a 6-yard scoring run on offense and Jake Rollyson had a 60-yard interception return touchdown on defense.
Fort Chiswell (0-1) scored on a 5-yard touchdown pass.
Rural Retreat is at Eastern Montgomery (0-1) next week. Fort Chiswell is at George Wythe (0-1).
Alleghany (N.C.) 28, Grayson County 21
The Blue Devils gave up a 20-yard touchdown pass to the Trojans with 14 seconds remaining and dropped their season opener in Sparta, North Carolina.
Parker Dowell rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries for Grayson County (0-1), while Dazion Thompson added 39 yards and a score on eight carries. Maverik Goad went 5-of-13 for 42 yards and threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to brother Makray Goad, who ended with four receptions for 31 yards.
Grayson County plays Carroll County (1-0) in Hillsville next week.
Bath County 36, Stonewall Jackson 0
Ethan Bryant rushed for 200 yards on 26 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Chargers shut out the Generals in Quicksburg.
Bryant also threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jake Boguess for Bath County (1-0). Hunter Kirby rushed for 62 yards on five carries and threw a TD pass to Ike Phillips. Owen Perdue had three tackles for loss and a blocked punt on defense.
Bath County faces Buffalo Gap (0-1) next week in Swoope.
Jefferson Forest 43, Gretna 0
The Cavaliers found the end zone on their first six drives and blasted the Hawks in Forest.
Thax Rowland ran for 49 yards on seven carries and a touchdown for Jefferson Forest (1-0), and caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Peyton Jackson who finished 4-of-6 for 104 yards and two touchdown passes, including one to Cam Jones. Cam Foxx, Gabe Barnett and Xander Coleman all scored on the ground.

Lord Botetourt 28, Rustburg 14
The Cavaliers scored 28 straight points en route to a road win over the Red Devils.
Angel Rigney and聽Quinten Jones scored two rushing touchdowns apiece for Lord Botetourt (2-0). Jones finished with 189 yards on the ground.

Bryce Robinson started under center for an injured Asher Chapman and completed his first 10 pass attempts for 157 yards and two touchdowns as the Warriors overwhelmed the Scarlet Hurricanes.
Robinson threw touchdown passes to Luke Mullinax, who tallied four receptions for 56 yards, and to Gabe Rouse. Gunnar Milhorne rushed for 54 yards and scored twice.
Marion (0-1) was held to 10 total yards.

Kenyon Reid scored four rushing touchdowns as the Bulldogs earned their largest win over the Cougars since 2016.

Avone Kidd and Jayden Corns scored rushing touchdowns for Patrick County (0-1), which picked up two points on a safety.

The Golden Eagles soared past the Titans in Clay Feazell's head-coaching debut at Bogle Stadium.
Patrick Chewning threw touchdown passes of 92 and 57 yards to Joshua Jackson for Staunton River (1-0) and finished 4-of-9 for 171 yards. Zach Craghead ran for 112 yards and a score on 13 carries, while CJ Lockliear added 68 yards and a TD on four carries.
Oliver Lichtenstein threw a 74-yard touchdown strike to Lucas Emory to get Hidden Valley (0-1) on the board. He finished 10-of-13 for 130 yards, and Emory tallied two receptions for 84 yards.
Staunton River hosts Jefferson Forest (1-0) next week. Hidden Valley, which extended its losing streak to 13 games, is in Vinton to face William Byrd (1-0).
