FERRUM — A stout second-half defensive effort led to Ferrum’s first football victory as a Division II program.
Aiden Vaught and Omarza Gray scored second-half touchdowns as the Panthers rallied for a 14-6 win over Shaw at W.B. Adams Stadium.
The Panthers (1-2) won their home opener by limiting the visiting Bears (0-2) to 200 yards of offense. Shaw also committed 20 penalties for 126 yards.
Vaught’s 2-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter put Ferrum ahead 7-6. Eli Foutz found Gray for a 6-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Ferrum won despite gaining only 181 yards of total offense. Foutz threw for 70 yards on 8-of-15 passing, and Jahylen Lee had a team-best 49 rushing yards on 16 carries.
Bowling Green 23, Liberty 13

Drew Pyne threw a touchdown and Chris McMillian added a late rushing score as the host Falcons (2-1) topped Liberty.
Pyne went 16 of 31 for 146 yards, finding Jacob Harris for a 12-yard touchdown to give Bowling Green a 10-0 halftime lead. McMillian’s 7-yard direct-snap run in the fourth sealed the win.
Kicker Jackson Kleather delivered field goals from 50, 48 and 26 yards. The Flames (1-2) pulled within 13-10 in the third on Ethan Vasko’s 44-yard strike to Donte Lee Jr., but Vasko also threw two interceptions and finished with 194 yards.
Eriq George had two sacks to lead a Falcons defense that tallied seven tackles for loss and three pass breakups.

Â黨ÊÓÆµ forced five turnovers and scored 23 straight points as the Maroons (2-0) picked up a road win over the Pride (1-1).
Both of Kam Hill’s touchdown passes and Tyson Miller’s rushing score came during the scoring streak.
Miller rushed for 97 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries.
Hill completed 17 of 34 passes for 182 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. His touchdown passes went to Khamari Garner (seven catches for 95 yards) and KJ Bratton.
Charlie Davis had 16 tackles and a fumble recovery. Javier Waldron had two interceptions, and Landon Altizer added an interception.
Wittenberg 24, W&L 21
Sumner Shroyer’s 24-yard field goal with 3:45 remaining lifted the host Tigers (1-1) to a win over the Generals (0-2).
Anthony Crawford rushed for 177 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries for W&L. His 5-yard score with 8:41 remaining in the fourth quarter tied the game at 21.
Ty Collins threw for 133 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 13-of-20 passing. He threw touchdowns to Jake Lohmann and Teddy Sparrow in the first quarter to put W&L ahead 14-0.
W&L gained 398 yards of offense.
It committed two turnovers, and the second turnover led to a Wittenberg touchdown in the third quarter.
Bucknell 35, VMI 28
Ralph Rucker IV connected with Sam Milligan on a 37-yard touchdown with 1:49 remaining to lift Bucknell past VMI.
Rucker passed for 405 yards and five touchdowns, and Milligan set career highs with seven receptions for 192 yards and four touchdowns. TJ Cadden had five catches for 123 yards and a touchdown for the host Bison (2-1).
Bucknell opened the scoring with a 45-yard pass from Rucker to Milligan midway through the first quarter, and it did not trail for the rest of the game.
The Keydets (1-2) rallied to tie three times, but Bucknell answered each time. VMI tied the game with 5:26 to go, but Bucknell took the lead for good with a two-minute drill score.
VMI’s final drive was effectively ended with an 11-yard loss on third-and-20, but the Keydets got within 2 yards of the chains on fourth.
Collin Shannon threw for 362 yards and three TDs, completing 21 of 38 passes for VMI.
Rutgers 60, Norfolk State 10
Athan Kaliakmanis passed for 309 yards and a touchdown to lead Rutgers to a lopsided home win over Norfolk State.
Antwan Raymond ran for two TDs as Rutgers piled up 563 total yards.
Rutgers (3-0) limited Norfolk State to 220 total yards. Kevon King scored the lone TD for the Spartans (1-2).
Norfolk State is coached by former NFL and Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick, who is in his first season with the Spartans.
