Bratton, a Lord Botetourt High School graduate who was on the Virginia football team in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, said Tuesday he is transferring to 麻花视频 College.

鈥淚 can鈥檛 wait,鈥� Bratton said in a phone interview.

The wide receiver was a nonscholarship player at UVa. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

麻花视频 College played club football last season, but coach Bryan Stinespring鈥檚 team will be playing varsity and ODAC football in the upcoming season.

鈥淗e really thinks I can be a big help,鈥� Bratton said. 鈥淐oach Stinespring just checked all the boxes as far as a person 鈥� that I see myself playing for.

鈥淭he first thing he talked to me about was, 鈥業 know the athletic ability, 鈥� but 鈥� you鈥檙e going to be one of the oldest guys we鈥檝e got coming in and I鈥檓 going to expect you to be a leader.鈥欌��

Bratton left the UVa football team after preseason practice last August but remained in Charlottesville for the 2024-25 school year as a nonplaying student.

鈥淒oing everything I could and then really not feeling like I was getting that opportunity that I deserved was my biggest (reason for leaving the team),鈥� Bratton said. 鈥淎t that time, I felt I was the best slot receiver 鈥� and I didn鈥檛 get the respect. I decided to 鈥� take my talents elsewhere to be able to contribute and compete.鈥�

Bratton joined UVa as a preferred walk-on in 2022.

鈥淚 wasn鈥檛 paying anything for school (because of) a lot of stuff that was in my (financial aid) package,鈥� he said.

Bratton never played in a game for UVa. As a freshman in 2022, he suffered a fractured jaw and a concussion after falling off his scooter on his way to preseason practice. He suffered a sprained knee ligament and a torn meniscus after getting hurt in practice in the 2023 season.

Bratton said he is not fretting about dropping down to NCAA Division III football.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 look at it like, 鈥楧ang, I have to take a step back,鈥欌�� he said. 鈥淚 look at it like, 鈥業ave an opportunity to do something special.鈥欌��
